The West African Museum houses The Ellis Perry collection of Art
& Artifacts owned by Henry Burke. This museum offers the
Mid-Ohio Valley the opportunity to see unique art and artifacts from
Ghana, which was one of the largest slave holding countries in
Africa. Together with artifacts owned by Henry Burke, a well known
researcher and lecturer on the Underground Railroad, and the
student-constructed, sixty foot long, topographically accurate model
of the Muskingum River, visitors learn about the vibrant culture of
the slaves before they were brought to the Americas,  the
Underground Railroad and the major role that Washington County
played in this historically important time.
